The Design and Visual Communications program trains students to become professional artists and designers. The curriculum includes the elements and principles of art and design, fine art and perspective drawing, graphic design, web design, animation, video and digital photography. Creative and conceptual problem-solving projects will teach students how to resolve visual consumer communication needs and how to prepare creative art for reproduction.
The students attend numerous field trips as it relates to the curriculum. They visit Boston, several museums, colleges, and new opportunities that arise each year. Students are involved in community projects using their creative design and software skills. They also enter several art competitions throughout the year.
Students in DVC have competed in both the District and State levels of Skills USA. The competition areas include Advertising Art, Digital Cinema and Photography where they have earned gold, silver and bronze medals for several years. In the spring, the Senior class invites family, friends and the community to attend a gallery showing where each graduating student displays samples of their best work.
Each student is required to present a comprehensive digital portfolio of their work during the second semester of their senior year in preparation for employment and/or the college admission process.
