Career
II got my start in the co-op program at a printing company in Needham, where I continued working after graduation. Over time, I advanced through various departments, eventually earning a position in sales. When the company faced financial challenges and closed, I took a leap of faith and started a print brokerage business with a partner. This venture eventually led us to purchase our first manufacturing company.
Fast forward several years, and we built a thriving enterprise with five manufacturing plants, 850 employees, and approximately $100 million in sales. In 1998, I sold my 50% stake in the business, which gave me the opportunity to focus on being a full-time dad to my kids for a few years.
However, I couldn’t stay away from building businesses for long. I joined an independent ambulance company as Director of Business Development and, alongside an amazing team, helped grow Brewster Ambulance into a 350-vehicle operation with approximately $85 million in annual sales.
Most recently, I teamed up with my best friend—also a Blue Hills alum—to launch West Point Waste Services LLC, a trash hauling company. Over the past 3.5 years, we’ve built the business to include 11 employees, 9 trucks, and about 1,000 trash containers. We’re projected to reach $4 million in sales by 2025.
Looking back, it all started with the skills, opportunities, and determination fostered during my time at Blue Hills. To current students: dream big, work hard, and don’t be afraid to take risks. You never know where your journey might lead!
How BHR prepared Peter Zampine for what he is doing now:
When I attended Blue Hills my shop teachers every day drove home the "real world". They prepared me by being honest and tough at times about what would and would not be acceptable. They gave me guidance and the work ethic not not only be prepared but excel above my peers that did not have the benefit of "hands on training".
Peter was active in:
Student Council
Baseball
Football
Advice to Blue Hills Students:
Listen to your teachers, absorb their knowledge like a sponge, and take full advantage of the wisdom they offer. Never let anyone or anything convince you that something "can't be done." Hard work and dedication are irreplaceable.
One of the most important skills you can develop is listening. Listen more than you speak, because the world will give you clues about what you need to succeed—you just have to be paying attention to recognize and seize those opportunities.
Stay curious, stay determined, and believe in what you can achieve.
