Program Description
The Blue Hills Electrical program provides a comprehensive foundation for entry into the electrical industry. Students learn technical skills such as basic electrical theory, use of tools and fasteners, testing equipment, conductors, wires, and outlets. Graduates continue on to become journeyman, master electricians, telecommunication technician, data wireman, alarm installer, and cable splicer. Many graduates of this program have advanced to self-employment and have become leaders of the electrical industry.
Among the topics covered in the four-year curriculum are job and shop safety, essential splicing techniques, device wiring, basic circuitry, and common wiring methods. Material management and circuit, line and schematic diagrams are taught. Electrical code, DC circuit theory, magnetism, and Ohm’s Law are included in the related instruction. Students progress to advanced DC circuit theory, batteries, and DC motors and generators. In the eleventh and twelfth grades, shop time is divided between experiences in the school shop and outside construction projects.
