Blue Hills Regional Technical School

Program Description

Students in the Cosmetology program are familiarized with the basic fundamentals of hairstyling, skin care and nail care. They learn shampooing, scalp treatment, manicuring, facial massage, hair analysis, hair styling, finger waving, precision hair cutting, hair coloring, chemical hair relaxing, thermal waving, curling and blow drying. Instruction will include sterilization, sanitation, and the use of electrical apparatus. Students will be prepared to apply for the State Board of Hairdressing written and practical examination upon completion of this program.

The Cosmetology program at Blue Hills has the largest up-to-date salon in the area. Upon completion of 250 hours, students will perform supervised work on customers.

    • Median annual earnings of salaried art directors were $63,840 in May 2004. Median annual earnings of salaried multimedia artists and animators were $50,360 in May 2004. Earnings for self-employed artists vary widely.Median annual earnings in May 2004 for salaried hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists, including tips and commission, were from $12,920 to $35,990 depending on salon size, experience, location, and tipping. Markets will determine salaries.

    Program Placement
    Graduates of the Cosmetology program have gone on to work for Dellaria Salons, Supercuts, Regis Salons, Lords & Ladys Hair Salon, Salon Moda, and Keldara Salon and Day Spa.
