Getting Parents Involved
Parent's Pages, Calendar, Dates to keep, and more
Education is really a three-way partnership between parents/guardians, students, and teachers. Each group has something important and necessary to contribute. We especially welcome the involvement of parents and guardians. Their input and participation in our clubs, events, and organizations are greatly valued and appreciated.
Described below are some ways that you can be part of Blue Hills. We hope to see you soon!
SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council):
The mission of SEPAC at Blue Hills is to work towards understanding, respect, support, and appropriate education for all students within the Blue Hills community who have or may have special education needs.
SEPAC allows parents and guardians of students receiving special education services to network and share information. Educational seminars are also held. Parents and guardians of children with disabilities often need advice and support as they help their children reach their potential. SEPAC also helps to fill this need. There is no membership fee – we only ask for your time and involvement.

School Council:
The School Council is arranged and administered by the high school principal. It is a group of teachers, parents and students who serve in an advisory capacity to the principal on a variety of matters. For example, input is gathered regarding the school improvement plan, budget suggestions, and recommendations regarding the parent student handbook, etc. Participation is voluntary, but appointment is made by the principal after a vote of commensurate peer groups.

Booster Club:
The Boosters are a group of parent volunteers hold meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the school’s student-run restaurant, the Chateau de Bleu. Their activities include fun fundraising events and other activities that raise money for students and activities at Blue Hills. They also award scholarships and trade awards to graduating students. The Booster Club runs the school store. They are always looking for volunteers to work during school lunch hours from 10:45 a.m. to about 12:40.
The Booster Club runs the football shed which is open for all home varsity games. If there are enough volunteers, it would be open for the JV and freshman games as well. This year we held an auction during which we solicited for donations and had a remarkable turnout and a fun evening featuring dinner, dancing and auction items. A great time was had by all and they exceeded the target amount set for this event.
Please join the Booster Club. They welcome fresh ideas and new people and have a great time together.

Advisory Boards:
It’s crucial for the vocational programs at schools like Blue Hills to stay current with new trends and developments in industry. We can do that best by having strong connections with professionals working in the fields taught at the school. For that reason, each vocational program area is mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Education to establish a Program Advisory Committee. The Program Advisory Committee consists of local business and industry related to the program, organized labor, postsecondary institutions, parents/guardians, students and representatives from registered apprenticeship programs.
The purpose of a Program Advisory Committee is to advise, assist and support school personnel in order to improve planning, operation and evaluation in its program area. Each Program Advisory Committee group must meet at a minimum of twice a year. Every member is approved and appointed by the School Committee. Applications can be obtained through the vocational office at Blue Hills. This is a highly effective way to have a voice in shaping the curriculum at Blue Hills and the future of our students.
